Mind Games Lounge at SPILF: simultaneous chess game with the European champion and an intense draughts tournament

The Mind Sports Lounge welcomed the first visitors at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

European chess champion Maxim Matlakov held a simultaneous game session with Forum participants. The most intense game took place between the grandmaster and German Zakharov, a representative of Alrud, who brought the game to a draw.

“This is not the first time I have held simultaneous games during the Roscongress events. I played in this format at the SPIEF. I am delighted that chess is of interest to Forum participants. The game with German Zakharov was really tough. My opponent thought long and hard about his moves and found some good solutions. In a different game, I was in a bad position, but in the end I managed to outsmart my opponent,” said Maxim Matlakov.

On 20 May, the chess programme in the lounge will continue with the SPILF Cup.

The chess programme at SPILF was developed by the Roscongress Foundation's sports platform and the St. Petersburg Chess Federation.

German Zakharov also became one of the three winners of the SPILF Draughts Cup. He was joined by Vasily Raudin (Moscow Bar Association, YUST Law Firm) and Alexander Koryev (Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Moscow State University).

The competition was judged by Andrei Napreenkov, Master of Sports of the USSR, European Veterans Champion in 2019, author of 23 books and the only person to have competed in all 18 European Draughts Championships since 2001. On 20 May, the titled athlete will hold a simultaneous draughts game session.

On 21 May, the Mind Sports Lounge programme will conclude with the SPILF Go Cup.
