Issues related to the development of the free legal aid system will be discussed at SPILF 2025

On 19 May 2025, as part of the 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, a session titled “The Right to Legal Rights: Free Legal Aid through the Lens of International Experience” will be held.

Participants will discuss the role and significance of the free legal aid system in implementing both the domestic and foreign policy of the Russian Federation, and will examine recent amendments to the relevant legislation.

“Today, the free legal aid system is one of the most in-demand mechanisms for protecting the rights and lawful interests of socially vulnerable groups. Its growing relevance is evidenced by both the increasing number of recipients of legal assistance and improvements in the legal regulation of free legal aid and legal education,” said Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Maksim Beskhmelnitsyn.

The session will future an exchange of international experience on the organization, legal regulation, and interagency coordination of free legal aid systems. Participants will include representatives from legal authorities, law schools, and the justice ministries of Venezuela, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

The Forum is organized by the Roscongress Foundation with support from the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.

The 13th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum will take place on 19–21 May in St. Petersburg.
