10th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum to Discuss Prospects for Digitalization

At 16.15 on 29 June 2022, a session entitled ‘The Digitalization of Justice: Problems and Prospects’ will be held as part of the 10th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

The session will focus on digital transformation and the prospects for introducing modern electronic services into the judicial process.

Participants in the discussion will consider how to strike a balance between one’s right to participate in court proceedings in person and doing so remotely, different options for protecting transmitted data and ensuring its authenticity, and prospects for international cooperation in justice in an online format.

“In order to expand the use of modern information technologies in civil, arbitration, and administrative court proceedings, the Russian Ministry of Justice prepared and adopted a federal law in December 2021 allowing litigants to submit documents to the court via the Public Services Portal, court information systems, and electronic document management systems. The legal act also made it possible to participate remotely in court hearings with the use of personal means of communication. We have now drafted a bill that would make it possible for all participants in criminal proceedings to participate via videoconferencing in a court session of any instance,” Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Vadim Fedorov said.
