Russian Epics in Stone at the Faberge Museum

Выставка

Fabergé Museum, 21, Fontanka River Embankment. Shuvalov Palace
On 29 June 2022 an exhibition entitled ‘Russian Epics in Stone’ will open at the Faberge Museum. The exhibition will showcase the works of contemporary gem-cutters from the Urals. The exhibition is organized by the Svyaz Vremen Foundation, Faberge Museum in St. Petersburg, and Shmotyev Family Foundation (Yekaterinburg).

The exhibition includes the artworks created at Yekaterinburg’s two leading gem-cutting workshops: Alexey Antonov’s Lapidary and Svyatogor studio.

Contemporary gem-cutters find their inspiration in both Russian history and oral tradition, that together paved the way for epics and fairy tales. The protagonists include Russian princes and heroes, mythological creatures, and folklore types. Collected, they tell a tale of Russian culture, its simple and underlying values of compassion, courage, and love.

Russian Epic in Stone demonstrates how the artists reimagine protagonists of Russian history and folklore. The art show illustrates both the development and the legacy of the centuries-old gem-cutting tradition.
