Yasonna Laoly
Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia
Yasonna H. Laoly serves as Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia since October 2014.
Under his leadership, Yasonna has pursued further advanced study on international law, among others, by concluding the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on Criminal Matters between Indonesia and Switzerland to eradicate transnational crimes. Yasonna has also successfully flattened the curve of Covid-19 cases in Indonesian penitentiary by using, among other, assimilation mechanism.
Yasonna graduated from the faculty of law, North Sumatra University, and pursued his study in Virginia Commonwealth University in 1986, where he was granted with the Outstanding Virginia Commonwealth University Graduate Student Award. He received his Doctorate degree from the North Carolina State University in 1994.
Yasonna is also an experienced Lawyer and Legal Counsel in 1978-1983, and served as the Dean of Law Faculty at Nommensen University in 1998-1999. He is currently an active lecturer at different academic institutions.
Yasonna was appointed as a professor at the Indonesian Police Education and Training Department (STIK-PTIK LEMDIKLAT POLRI) through a decree signed by the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasir with Number 25458/M/KP/2019 dated 11 July 2019. This title was obtained in the field of Police Science, Criminology Studies.
Yasonna in his inauguration as Professor of Police Science College at the STIK-PTIK Auditorium on Wednesday, 11 September 2019 delivered a scientific speech on The Impact of Cyber Bullying in Election Campaigns on the Future of Democracy in Era 5.0.
